National Tartan
Day, April 6th
Since 1998, by Act of Congress, each April
6th is designated National Tartan Day, to honour those of Scottish descent
and
their contributions to the culture of America. In Rapid City, we stage a
"sidewalk parade" dressed in Tartan, to proclaim our proud heritage and
celebrate the day. We like to call this somewhat impromptu event "Scaring
The Locals",
as we wander in a group in the Downtown, along the sidewalks (too cheap
for a parade permit...) until we change our minds.
Wear plenty of tartan as the weather promises to be a bit nippy in April.
We anticipate future "Walkabouts" will spread to Lead in years to come....
